My Speech, My Dream

Just quickly whilst waiting for the babysitter (my mum!) to arrive.  Hubby has gone to Queensland til Sunday so I’ve been re-arranging the loungeroom.  I found the photo of Lydia as a newborn.  I’m so excited as it’s the only good one I have of her til she’s about four  months old - so I’ve scanned it and put it up.  She’s a couple of hours old in the photo - it’s a great one of her, ...

Colds!!

Henry and I have a cold.  I’m not bad, I’ve been on the echinacea, zinc, Vitamin C and eating lots of garlic!

Henry has had a couple of miserable nights.  I put him in the bathroom with hot shower running and let him steam up which helped clear him up - and put him in the pram where he slept better (coz it drains the mucous better).  But apart from keeping his fluids up, I’m not sure ...

I feel like Barnaby the Busy Buzzy Bee.  I don’t seem to have time to think these days.

Apart from packing orders, answering emails, and the paperwork, I have a competition running.  People have to answer the following "The thing I love most about Modern Cloth Nappies is ……." and wow, my inbox has been beeping away as the answers come in.  Some of them have bought tears to my eyes,  some have made me laugh and ...

How Long Does A Nappy Last?

How long is a piece of string?

There are so many variables that this is impossible to answer.

Do you change after each wee or do you wait for a nappy to reach saturation point before changing?  Do you have a light or a heavy wetter?  How much nappy free time do you allow?  What time of the day is it?

If we were all perfect mothers we’d change after each wee and have four hours of nappy ...

Mandy Mac Liner

I am still getting heaps of emails asking what the stay-dry liner on the Mandy Mac hemp onesize nappy is made from.  It’s polyester knit.  Most users of modern cloth nappies would be familiar with polyester polar fleece as a liner.

I prefer the knit as it is slimmer - leading to less bubble bum - and because it is not as thick as polar fleece, it is cooler.  I also like that it is long ...

Fairtrade Fortnight

Fairtrade fortnight finished yesterday.  I used to use fairtrade tea & coffe, went off it and now I’ve been using fairtrade tea and coffee for about a year.  As an economist I find it difficult to argue against a comparative advantage, but as a human I find it difficult not to want to help out third world farmers.

Fairtrade works basicaly like this.  A business says to a relevant Fairtrade Labelling Organization that it wants to ...

How Exciting!!!

The pic of me in front of the pyramids has been voted by the mumspace powers that be as "Picture of the Week."  It is one of my favourites and sits on a sidetable in the corner of our loungeroom.  However it does annoy me that people as "Is that real?" if they don’t know how extensively I’ve travelled.  And why would I put a fake picture of myself in pride of place?

Pictures of ...

Wash Your Snappis

I don’t know what it is with the new style snappis.  I love the design of them and they are so user friendly - but they absorb the ammonia from Henry’s overnight nappies.

On more than one occassion I’ve been preparing to put a nappy on.  Babe in front of me, nappy beside him, cover on the other side, snappi in the mouth and suddenly a horrid, acrid, stale urine smell hits the nostrils.  I look around ...

A Stinky Bairn and a Poo in the Loo

Lydia woke during the night crying.  I grabbed her before she woke her brother and brought her into bed with us.  However I’ve been giving her lentil soup for a couple on nights and the smell from all the yummy curry spices is coming out.  It was in her pores, her breathe, her hair.  Oh, I dear, I had to move to the couch.

She’s such a beautiful child to look at, hard to imagine she ...

How to Wash Nappies

When I read through the internet forums I see new users always getting so confused on how to launder nappies.  And there always seems to be a hundred and one different responses.  Often you’ll see mums of three month olds giving laundry advice - which makes me wonder how much experience they’ve had with teething wee, or toddler poo.

So I though I would share my laundry routine with you.

I’ve been using modern cloth nappies now ...
